Our History

Christian Renewal’s roots go deep, beginning in the home of a local Hilton Head Island resident. It began as a Bible study, with covered dish meals on Thursday evenings. It evolved through the years moving, because of space, meeting in places like rooms donated by Sea Pines Co., Island Theater at Coligny Plaza, Grace Community Church, Island Beach & Tennis, Hilton Head High School Cafeteria and, for many years, the old Presbyterian Campground off of South Forest Beach Drive.

Thirteen acres was purchased from Hilton Head Christian Academy around 1984. With help from a service in Dallas, the pledges that came in more than doubled the challenge goal. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fraser, developer of Hilton Head Island, donated four residential lots to be sold to help build the church. The church continued strong and steady through the years, with some of the original nucleus members from the early 80’s, led by only three pastors, unable to finalize the building plans. Until 2005, when Pastor Gilbert Posey took on the challenge to finish the job and, with help from the congregation, the doors opened October 2005.
